As we transition from Summer to Fall, the local "foodscape" also makes some major changes.
Most of the Summer produce is starting to disappear or go up in price. It is time to start looking at Fall items to replace the old summer standbys. Here is a small list of a few items that are starting to make their way to Local Sacramento Farmers Markets.
1) Apple Hill Apples.... if you have spent anytime in this area, this needs no explanation.
2) Winter Squash.... Butternut is one of the best. You can sub it for potatoes in a lot of ways
3) Delta Pears.... French Butter Pears are the best pears out there right now
4) Watermelon Radish.... Sweet and Tangy. What a great mixture
5) Beets.... Many colors, try them roasted !!!
6) Pomegranates.... Brings back many memories from my childhood.
These are just a few items that are popping up locally. Be kind to your family this week and go out and spend $40.00 at a local farmers market. Bring back your bounty and find a great way to share recipes with those you love. Dont be afraid to buy an item first and then go home and jump on the internet to find a unique recipe. You will be glad you did.
Also, if you go out to the Markets, shoot me a note and let me know what you got and what you made with it. Your email could be the inspiration for a new menu item for CRISP Catering.
Good Luck!!!!
